Full Moon Rise

Where: Mordecai Richler Gazebo
Direction: East (82°)

Facing the northeast, about 1 hour after sunset, the Full Moon will rise over the horizon.

As the Sun is setting at 5:38 PM, in the eastern sky we should see a pink sky with a dark band on the horizon, a phenomenon known as the Belt of Venus. This is the shadow of the Earth being shown on our atmosphere, and will provide a warm-up show for the Full Moon.

At first, the Moon will appear an orange-pink colour as it sits low on the horizon. This happens every time the Moon is low on the horizon, caused by Rayleigh Scattering. The Moon will appear a yellow colour as it gets higher, then it's normal white colour when high enough over the horizon.
