Free Comet Viewing at Parc du Pelican in Rosemont on Jan 31

Tuesday, January 31st at 7:00 - 8:30 PM

This Tuesday, January 31st, I'll be setting up a telescope in Rosemont to give people a look at the comet that's been in the news.

Donations are welcome, but this is a free event. All ages welcome.

The comet will reach its closest to Earth around February 1st. It won't be possible to see it with the naked eye in the city, but I'll be using the Unistellar eVscope to show it to folks.

Details

  • Date: Tue, Jan 31
  • Time: 7:00 - 8:30 PM
  • Location: Parc du Pelican (Rosemont)
  • Google Map
  • Free!

I'll be located by the shipping container at the base of the hill. Look for a dude with a red headlamp. I am that dude.

Expectations

Comet shown on a tablet with Unistellar eVscope in background

I’ll be using a Unistellar eVscope to show this. It'll look like a fuzzy green dot with a tail behind it. This might not seem like much, but I'll be giving you context so you can fully appreciate this.

I'll also be showing people where in the sky the comet actually is. Because the comet changes position slightly night over night, I'll be showing this too. If you come, be sure to download the free Stellarium Mobile app.

See You There

I'm writing this as I look out my window and see a dump of snow coming down. I'm trusting meteorology on this one, which says Tuesday will be clear.

Hope to see you there!
