What Your Class Will Learn

  • what happens during an eclipse
  • the difference between a lunar and solar eclipse
  • the difference between a partial and total solar eclipse
  • why we don't see a solar eclipse every month
  • why the Moon and the Sun appear the same size in the sky
  • how to safely see the upcoming solar eclipses
  • how to know when and where to be for the April 8, 2024 eclipse

Activity

If the weather is clear, we'll go outside and safely look at the Sun using solar eclipse glasses. This will give students an idea of the Sun's size and how it compares to the Moon.

If time and weather permits, we'll also safely look at the Sun through a telescope using a solar filter.
